Try To Reconnect?

We are upgrading our existing NT4.0 TSE MF1.8 farm to Windows Server 2k3 and MF XPe and all was going well until we migrated a bunch of users over last week.

Now we are getting a message on our 3125 Winterm clients when they try to launch their Citrix Desktop connections that pops up and asks them "Try To Reconnect?" and their choices are "OK" or the "X" in the upper right hand corner.

If they try persistently (6 times or more) it often will eventually let them in. Sometimes it won’t.

I ran a dscheck on the ds and it comes up clean. I backed it up and cleaned it anyway but it is still happening. If I reboot the master browser it seems to help for a little bit but it just comes back. The problem is getting worse and I am at a loss to identify what is causing it?

Anyone have anything? I am totally open to ideas and input. I fear that by the end of the day I may have 233 users that cannot work! [mad] [thumbsdown]

Hi,

Can you log onto Citrix via their Winterms? Is it that these Winterms are the issue rather than the users? It sounds like a licensing issue in that the Winterms either haven't got a license or can't save a license to the registry. Can you log onto the Winterms as an Admin user locally? If so, configure Citrix and connect, this should then write a license key to your terminal once you've connected. Then log out, log in as a normal user and log into Citrix.

Cheers,
Carl.

Thanks for the reply. We were thinking the same thing and have already ruled out the client device as best we can tell. It seems to happen to all out clients including laptops, PC, and thin clients. We have plenty of NT, TSE and Citrix licenses available but have not ruled out a licensing glitch.

They are not even getting to a logon prompt. Admin or user account is irrelevant as you don't get the chance.

The application (a published desktop in this case) appears and then immediately disappears before the login prompt comes up and they get the "Try To Reconnect" popup.

Like I say, if I reboot the master browser it goes away for a bit. but a few hours later it will come back again.

Very frustrating. Any other ideas? I am open.

Thanks again.

Hi,

I presume all your licenses are showing up ok in your license server?

Your license server is on W2K3 isn't it? What did you configure your license server as? Per User or Per Device?

At a last resort it may be worth speaking to Microsoft clearing house and scrap your license server and recreate it, reinstall the licenses and reactivate your licensing server.

Also, you did point all your Citrix servers to your license server in the TermService License key?

Cheers,
Carl.

Hi, from reading the post it looks like there is no W2K3 license server set up. Your TSE and NT licenses do not enter into this equation. You must hace Win2K3 TSCALS for either all your users or all your devices. There is no upgrade available as such, and your TSE cals are no longer valid. You need a Win2K3 License server. ANd you need to get your licenses on to that.

I thought I should post that i found the issue here and resolved it in case anyone else ever has it.

It was a bug in v6.30 of the ICA client that we were using. Once updated on both Thin Client and PC a like the issue goes away.

Hope that helps someone!

Rock on!
