Hi all, first post here so i hope you can help.

Currently a building has a 2950 with X pcs attached.
This is currently trunked successfully to another 2950.

I have purchased a 2970 to provide core fibre and gb ethernet requirements to the network however when i re configure cabling so that the 2970 sits between the 2 2950 switches the workstations in the pre mentioned building can not access the network.

Yes all switches are part of the cluster. Yes i can ping the 2950 in both configurations. Both ports are set up as a 802.1Q Trunk in both configurations.

This has to be simple. Any pointers in the right direction would be appreciated.

Check your layer 2 vlans on the 2970 and make sure they show up and active with the "show vlan" command. You don't say how you are routing between vlans so if you are using the 2970 as the aggregate I would look at the config for the link that goes to your L3 device , check the trunking parameters etc...

Thanks for the reply. I have been using the CNA to configure the switches along with the CLI.

Just to give you more of an idea of what i am dealing with here. I have a 3550 workgroup switch as the Command switch. There are two VLANs configured. The 3550 is the VTP server.

After reading your comment i found the settings to change the 2970 to a client of the VTP server. This seemed a logical explanation why no clients could communicate as the 2970 had know knowledge of any VLANS. The cisco documents said to ensure the revision level was lower than all others in the VTP domain. I did this as it indicated.

What else do i have to do to get the VLAN info to transfer from the 3550? I changed the VTP password on the 3550 and on the 2970. Still no go. VTP counters shows that there are 19 errors.. I have not changed the other switches VTP passwords yet.. Is this required if the 2970 trunks to one of these before the 3550.

Again sorry if these are newb type questions. Have had little experience with cisco gear.

Thanks again.

Make sure the vtp domain names match exactly . Ohter than that I don't know , have not dealt with CNA so I don't know what you are looking at . Is the link trunking ok ??? Has to up in trunking mode before it will pass any vlan info also.

Just a quick note to say this issues has been solved. The VTP settings on the switches must be set before you join the cluster. Removing the switch from the cluster and adding it again resolved the issue.

Thanks for your assistance vipergg.
