We need to standardize the naming convention used for our trunk group across our national company. Does anyone have a suggestion as to a format or convention for naming trunks that will make sense as to their use, the carrier, the location, etc.?
LLLSS TTT CCCCCC
LLL = for your location code. (if you need the state as well, I would place it after the city. But whatever works for you.)
SS = State
TTT = for the type L = Local Only, A = All, SIP, etc.
C = Carrier name.
I have used something like this in the past.
For outside trunks you could use format;
Area Code; Circuit Type; Carrier; Local/LD
ex. 801 PRI ATT Local
- When you name the DS1 use the Circuit ID.
For Network trunks you could use format;
City Code (or IATA code); Network Node #; Gateway
ex. PHX N3 192.68.xx.xx
There are many ways to standardize, just keep it simple.
...also very good info. Yes, simple, but a true standard. We are a national company only, but we have nearly 800 locations to identify various trunk groups for.
