I've been having some trouble troubleshooting incoming mail to our new E-2k box after we lost our E-5.5 box so I thought I'd try again with a little more detail. Hopefully it will be enough to get some advice to get this fixed.
Basically, I can't receive incoming mail from outside the Exchange server.
My setup and history.
The Old 5.5 box was setup with a different org/site. (was 10.0.0.1 (netbios: exch)
While it was down I build a FreeBSD IMAP/Squirrelmail/Sendamail server to hold us until it was fixed. (is currently 10.0.0.1)
The new E-2k box (again, witha different org/site) was built and the mail moved via exmerge. (10.0.0.2 netbios: dc-fp-01)(to test I unplug the FreeBSD box and I add 10.0.0.1 to the E-2k box so it has 2 IP's when testing)
I can telnet to 10.0.0.1 (or the netbios name dc-fp-01) on port 25 and manually send mail without errors but it never shows up in the inbox, there's no NDR, nor do I see it in any queue. After 20 minutes or so I gave up and removed the 10.0.0.1 IP from the E-2k box and rebooted the FreeBSD machine and 10 or so minutes later the test e-mail was delivered to the IMAP server. It's as if it was stuck in limbo on the E-2k box until the FreeBSd machine came back up.
I see nothing in the event logs to explain this and the FreeBSD maillog shows that it was delivered from the E-2k box to the FreeBSD box after it comes back up.
