I have a Tab Control form with 4 pages. When I open the form and click on the navigation button to advance to the next record - my file crashes and brings up the error that says Access has experience difficulty and need to close the file. The status bar indicates it is calculating when it crashes. I do not have anything tagged to OnOpen or OnCurrent events although I did have at one time. There are about 700 records in the underlying table. Would this be the problem?

Where do I start to troubleshoot this?? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Suggestion - you might want to begin a new database and import the one you are experiencing difficulity with. Before doing anything, MAKE A COPY. On the newly created database go to file and import.

Without seeing anything, this is the only thing I can think of at the moment. Your current db may have become corrupt.

Good Luck!

A few things you can try before [blue]mph1's[/blue] method.

Try Compact & Repair.

If no results, in the forms window, rename the form, copy the form, past back into the forms window and give its origional name.

If no results goto [blue]mph1's[/blue] method.

mph1 and TheAceMan1 - I tried both suggestions and had the same result. Any further suggestions? I'm at a loss.

Thanks.

Do you have a recursive calculation? ...Or some fancy code for OnLoad, OnCurrent, AfterUpdate events plus perhaps automatically, via code, update data on the form? (For example, have a default date value =Now()) ...Or conditional formatting on field(s).

If so, try openning up the form in design mode, and remove / comment out some of the setup coniditions.

Richard - thanks for the advice. I'm not too good with the code so I don't have too much of it. However, I have tried to use it when I have to. When I look at the details of the error message it tells me this:

AppName: msaccess.exe AppVer: 10.0.6501.0
ModName: msjtes40.dll
ModVer: 4.0.8618.0 Offset: 0001c07a

What should this tell me?

I did remove a default date that was set to =Now() but that didn't do the trick.

I got it!! Thanks to all of you. It was a filter problem - I set the Filter property to Off and it cleared up the problem.

That brings up a whole new question which I will start as a new thread.

Thanks again!!

Try reconstructing the form from scratch under a different name. Do't worry about any formatting or alignment of controls. You just want to see if it works.

If this fails, I'm afraid your headed for reinstall . . .

One more thing...
msjtes40.dll

...Is part of the JetEngine.

Apply service packs to Access and security patches for your version of windows. The link will let you automate both processes...

Choose Office Update for Access, and either Automatic or Windows update to update the OS.

I have the same problem. Filter searches boot users out of access. The microsoft fix baxed on the error is to update the jet dll. However I have the latest version 4.0.8618.0. When I download the file again, same problem!! What was your solution? The filter is so quick, I hate to lose the functionality.
