Hello,

Working on a mchine with VS2005 installed.

Operating System: Windows XP (Professional Version 2002) Service Pack 2
.Net Framework: Version 2.0

Needed to maintain an application written in .Net Framework 1.1 so needed to install VS2003.

Installing VS2003 did not work. Got a few errors, including VS2003 prerrequisites requiring FrontPage Server Extensions to be installed. Those were already installed - rechecked multiple times.

Short story long - uninstalled VS2005 (and dozen or so other apps that the unistall necessitates, in the correct order). Then, uninstalled Windows XP Service Pack 2. Was then able to install VS2003 - no problems. Cool. Reinstalled Windows XP Service Pack 2. Installed VS2005 - no problems - or so I thought. Now, when I try and start VS2005, the splash screen comes up and then nothing happens at all (VS2003 works just fine tho'). Also tried double-clicking the devenv.exe file in the folder "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE" and again, the splash screen appears for a second, then nothing happens. Out of sheer frustration, tried double-clicking the devenv.exe.config file in the hope that that may cause the IDE to open. I get an error message saying "unable to locate file at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE", but I can see the file at that path in Windows Explorer.

Has anyone ever faced this issue or anything like it?

Thanks in advance.

Amit
