I have reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled 98. For some reason it then failed to recognize my modem. I got a new driver from the manufacturer and it seems ok but I can't get to windows update and am recieving many many script error messages. Have I missed a step somewhere? I did this once before without a problem. I'm at a loss as to what could have changed.

thanks
Hank

Did you update Internet Explorer? If you didn't its probably because you are running a very old version of internet explorer which can't handle the new scripts.

I have had problems going to windows update getting script errors with a fresh install of win98 just because the IE is to old.

Im just setting up a new install of win98 on a pc will go to windows update without updating ie to ie6sp1 see if exactly what errors I get.

Thanks Guys,The Internet address I was using was wrong and updating to IE6 solved the script problems.I may never know what happened with the modem but it's working now and sometimes you just have to "let it go". I don't know what I'd do without Tek-Tips!! Thanks again. Hank

Glad to hear that you solved the problems, and thanks for posting back with the solutions.
