I have taken a wave file and i have converted it in 8Khz, 16 bit and mono and try to send it to the ip small office.
In the tftplog i have the message that the tranfert have failed

did you name the file holdmusic.wav? did you place it in the manager directory and reboot the ip office? More info required.

Internal MOH is usualy more trouble than it is worth, by a cheap CD player (I think they are giving them away free with cornflakes now) & burn your file on to a CD.

Alternatively you could yous the sound output of Your PC.

Was the holdmusic.wav file longer than 30 seconds? I find you actually have to keep it under 28 seconds or the IPO will cut off the last few seconds.

I've never had a problem using this feature, IPGuru. The thing with using CD players is they break, then you have to buy more cornflakes to get another one, and yuck! Who wants to do that??

Peter

They sound make it like the BCM, and have a "WinAMP" player installed. This way you can run multiple wav files. We use it here and it honestly works great.

the reason why I refered to internal MOH being a problem is that it needs a copy of manager running to supply the MOH file if the system is reset.
this is ok if all system admin is done localy, when sites are maintained remotley any system change that requires a reboot will loose the MOH file. (I maintain nearly 500 sites!)

It is posible to run an aplication susch as win amp on the VM pc (or any other) and connect the sound output to the moh input, this is all the BCM system does (just the BCM switch & the server PC are all enclosed in the same case)

Actually it's different. The IPAMP application provides a IP stream and the BCM actually listens to that stream. You have the PC portion playing the files to the broadcast stream, and the PEC listening the stream. It's more then just playing to a audio port.

Ok I stand corrected, I am not familiar with the BCM although it looks like a competent product (I am worried by the Secuity risks possed by using WIN NT as the os though) but I guess we are now getting off topic

IPGuru I can't claim 500 sites, but I do remotely support locations across the country also. My prefered method is to have that copy of manager running at all times on the VMS PC, then provide some flavor of remote desktop control of the VMS PC. That way A: I can control IPO and VMPro from one screen B: copy of manager running for IP hardphones to tftp to and C: don't have to worry about customer admin doing changes at the same time I am - we both use that same copy of manager.

How do you get around B and C above?

Peter

With the upgrade hassles pre 2.1 a local network PC with Manager was surely a must. If you have concerns about leaving Manger running, there are freeware/shareware TFTP apps that can perform the same service.

Small Office systems can do one extra trick which to write the MOH file to a compact flash memeory card inserted into one of the PCMCIA slots on the back. The IP Office can then be configured to use that as its TFTP source (yes, it could also hold the 4600 series phone files). To my knowledge it doesn't have to even be an Avaya supplied memory card except if doing Embedded Voicemail.

B: We only have a few sites that use IP phones, Ip phones only need the tftp server untill they have uploaded thier firmware anyway (unless yet another bug fix upgrade is needed :-( )

C: I do not make config changes toa cust system without talking to the cust first So i know he is not using the system.

I prefer to run Manager, Call status, monitor & sometimes even Phone Manager localy for perfomance reasons.
(this also means that we have an office based backup for all customer configs)

I use VNC for remote control of VM Pro when necessary.

On of the biggest problems we have is with customers accidently closing applications on the server PC - especialy VM Lite!

I have internal MOH working fine on the Small Office. I can dial *34 on any digital phone and hear the recording but if I do it on a Hardphone (connected directly to the control unit) it does not work. Is this normal or do I have something setup wrong? Thanks in advance.
