Hi,

I have been noticing a number of Windows 2000 workstations that are having sporadic trouble connecting to our list of network printers. We are using client 4.83 SP1 in a queue based printing environment. When trying to connect to a printer object some users will get a message saying "Could not connect to the printer. You either entered a printer name that was incorrect or the specified printer is no longer connected to the server".. This message is false since others can connect and print fine. It is not isolated to a specifc printer object or user... As a workaround I have had some success pointing to the queue object instead which seems to work most of the time..
Anyone else seen this?..

Thanks.

Hi,

I have had the same problem. All workstations are win 2k machines. Cannot reconnect to the printer which ever way I try, but can connect to other printers. The original printers are fine for other workstations.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Wow,

Me to - I upgraded the Win2k client to 4.83 SP1 yesterday and that didn't seem to help. I thought it was because of the number of prnters (>30 on one workstation) so I deleted all of them - still no luck. The problem seems to come and go - I installed a printer using the wrong drivers and it would install okay and then tried to change the driver, said the configuration could not be saved, yet the driver changed okay and seemed to work. This problem has got me stumped as well.

I am bothered by this as well. I could not find a TID at Novell's website that directly addresses this problem. I did find some old information that talked about a similar problem with the NWSPOOL.DLL file that was supposedly fixed before the release of the 4.83 client.

Novell has released 2 files since the release of SP1. Both of these files are supposed to address printing issues but neither file was directly addressing the problem we are seeing. I haven't had a chance to test them to see if it fixes anything, you may want to try..

Please post on this thread if anyone can shed some light on this.

Thanks.

This is certanly a late response, Although some others may be looking for the answer at present.

How to solve....

I have experienced this problem on windows 2000 machines. To fix, delete the printer, do a search through the registry for the printer queue name. Delete all entries. Recreate the troublesome printer.
