HI folks What I would like to do is install win 3.1 on some free space on myHD that is dual booted mandrake 9 & win xp home. Ihave access to partition magic to help out W/install. My boot loader is LILO W/ win xp set as default What file sys should I set for win 3.1 I want xp and mandrake9 to be able to read win 3.1 fat or fat 32? Also any info about getting 3.1 online W/ cable would be appreciated. TIA Mike

FAT16 with a DOS underlying it. And probably use boot manager to make the choice.
I'm assuming that XP will work with bootmanager. Haven't tried it. Ed Fair

Best way would have been to start from scratch, loading "dumbest first"; DOS/Win, WinXP, Linux.

All 3 O/Ses can read FAT, but I don't think Win3 can read FAT32 - wasn't that introduced with Win9.x/4?

Hope this helps CitrixEngineer@yahoo.co.uk

That raises a good point. I said 16 based on something like 6.22, but in retrospect something like 7 should allow 32 to run and 3.1 should fit in without problems.
So the question probably will revolve around whether Mandrake is capable of seeing a 32 bit filesystem. Ed Fair

Yes - Mandrake 8.2 can see FAT32. I'm using 9.0 now, but still prefer Caldera (which can't without FIPS 2.0). CitrixEngineer@yahoo.co.uk
