Hello,

Could anybody please tell me whether it's possible to embedd tray calls into a PDF file?

Thank you,

Stas Newdel

Yes and No. You have to use a job-ticketing system for this. That's what the JDF spec was designed for, but I don't know how well supported it is. You should look into PPML.

The problem is that PDF is a document format, not a production format, so there really isn't a good way to embed output instructions directly in a PDF.

Thomas is right, Only JDF does support tray information. There are only production printers supporting JDF together with PDF, for example a Xerox DocuTech will care about JDF.
