Transfering DHCP scopes to new server

As part of a rolling Windows 2000 to 2003 upgrade I need to transfer the DHCP scopes from a Windows 2000 DC to a Windows 2003 DC. KB article

seems pretty straight-forward but it doesn't mention the impact to clients.
I'm thinking I might be able to do this during the day and clients will just dicover the new DHCP server via broadcast when they come to renew. Anyone actually done this that can relate their experiences?

Yes, I've done this many times. If you follow the instructions it works without any problems. Yes, the clients will find the new DHCP server when they try to renew. I've also done this during the day without any problem. In the unlikely event someone tries to renew while the server is down, it will try again at the next renewal interval (depends on the length of your lease). The first renewal is at 50% of the lease, and the second is at 7/8 (87.5%). The important thing is to get that DHCP database over to the new server, so it doesn't try to handout an IP address someone already has.
