Hi all, I have recently bought a pc and I have a pc. I want to transfer all my data to the new pc can I do this from a windows 2000 pro box to a xp pro box? and how do I do it.

went to article thanks. will this work on a windows 2000 box is the old system, to xp pro the new system? article say use disk or something, but I am talking a whole lot of data, am wondering can I transfer it to a network share folder?

The Files and Settings Transfer Window will work with Win95 and up.

You can transfer the data to any Windows recognized folder, or you can as the second article shows just use and ethernet cross-over cable or a null-modem cable between the two machines.
 
I just did this exact same thing and have spent days reading up on different networking options.

Coming from someone who just setup a home network for the first time, I would recommend getting the Ethernet crossover cable, as long as both PC's have Ethernet cards installed in them.
 
Or just remove your old drive and piggy back it to your new hard drive as slave, there isn't even any need to properly mount it, just to give it power and an IDE connection (copy over data in windows explorer)
Shouldn't take more than 5 mins to have it up and running.
