What is the best way to transfer files from a very poorly laptop (on xp), to a desktop (on vista)?

The laptop has next to no processing power making easy transfer and networking out of the question. I was wondering if there was some way i could connect the laptop hard drive to the desktop to retrieve my much needed files.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

There are several adapters that allow you to connect a hard drive to a USB port. Check out CDW, PC Mall, PC Connection, etc.

The already mentioned suggestions are a better solution, this, although not much of a solution, appeals to me from a purely technical view.

XP has the File and Transfer Wizard installed already, Vista has Easy Transfer which would required to run on the XP Laptop.

You could go XP (Laptop) to XP (other machine, or Virtual PC on your Vista) to Vista.

The Laptop would have to save the files to CD (or other removable media but not if you use a Microsoft Virtual PC).

If laptop drive is IDE, then an IDE adpater will allow you to connect drive directly to PC IDE connector

If drive is SATA you can connect it directly to any SATA PC's SATA connector.

In either case you can buy an external enclosure and connect to PC via usb (or firewire) port.

Thanks for all the suggestions, i wasn't aware of the ide adapters available. This is just the kind of thing i was after so thanks to all who replied.
