I am trying to find a program or method to transfer files from a DOS 6.22 network server computer to a WIN98 machine using either a crossover USB(preferred) or serial port cable. Can't plug into net hub because it crashes system and cannot get support from people who are running this network. Although this would be the optimum solution, I have given up on this approach.

I need a network friendly TSR residing on the DOS 622 server machine that can xfer files to the WIN98 machine using commands generated on the WIN98 machine. I do not normally have access to the DOS prompt on the DOS server.
The approach would be to load the tsr on the DOS server, reboot and never have to mess with the DOS server again.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks Much,
Bob E.

If you can connect direct to the server why not use FTP, WS-FTP have some free FTP software you can download or just use DOS in 98. At the dos prompt type ftp and this will put you in FTP mode. Type open and then the address of the server you will probably be asked for a password to access the servers files but once in locate the files you require like you would on you own PC dir should get you a list unless you know the folders names already use the command 'get' plus the file name. If you want a folder use 'mget' or 'getm' can't remember which.

Thanks for the response.

When you say type "load" and then the address, don't you need an ip address in ftp? Don't forget we are not plugged into the network with our own nic card because we continue to crash the system when we plug into their hub. The fall back position it to dirct cable from my computer thru a cable to either a usb or serial port

The maker of the system is hostile about our dragging files off of it. I can tell you what the autoexec and config.sys commands are that pertain to their network. My next attempt is to use their drivers and nic card on my computer and see if we can plug into their hub. The problem is we will upset people if we continually crash their system.
Autoexec.bat
:Network init (Daktech Intel 10/100 onboard irq11
set netirq=11
netbind
Config.sys
device=c:\net\protman.dos/i:c:\net
device=c:\net\e100b.dos
device=c:\net\dis_pkt.dos
Some of these drivers may be proprietary - don't know.

Maybe somebody recognizes the type of network protocol they are using.

In any case, do you know if we can use ftp on direct cable to usb or serial ports?

Thanks again,

For a user friendly interface in Dos get;

Don't mix up the files with windows as many have the same name. Query in MS support site on this term
