Hello All,

Norstar MICS external external call transfer denied as soon as I press 9 (line pool A access code).

This has worked for years and on Monday they started receiving "transfer denied" when an attempt was made. All phones having the same issue...

All 10 analog loop start lines appear to be working. I didn't make a test call on each, but did check for dial tone.

Why would this stop working??

Any advice is appreciated!

As all phones are affected, then I would probably take a look in the Norstar programming. What springs to mind is if the "redirect" feature has become disabled?. You may have had a power outage that had caused the problem.

Something from the distant past tells me that external transfer would not work, in the UK anyway, unless the analogue lines were earth calling? Could be just my mind playing tricks though 😀

Yes Jeff, the UK Norstar versions were denied from trunk to trunk calls and to transfer or call forwarded externally. This was due back then to the UK Telecoms regulations.

Somewhat confused. Are you trying to transfer an incoming call back out to an outside line..could conference the caller and add outside person….they will drop off after they hang up

I seem to remember all the lines needed to have supervision on to do external transfers.

Wow, this goes way back, if I remember correctly, you could order analog lines with a feature from telco (I believe this was called transfer disconnect) this was to allow calls coming in on let's say trunk 1, could be transferred back out on trunk 1, the trunk would go back to idle, in order for this to work on the Nortel you had to setup a link button on the phone.
Does anyone else remember this, or am I wrong?

Link is correct. It’s been 20 years since I done that but that was the feature.

A message on the screen ""transfer denied" is when using Norstar External Transfer and not the carriers method, LINK/FLASH.

Since it was setup then programming was changed somewhere.

External Transfer with Norstar:
You are removing Line Pool and External codes and using Dest codes with Routes instead

-Lines/Line X/Trunk Data/Line X (and all other lines required) must be set to Supervised
-Lines must be in Pool X
-System Programming/Access Codes/Line Pool Codes/Line Pool X: set to NONE
-System Programming/Access Codes/External Code: set to NONE
-Route XXX must be setup to use Pool X
-Destination Code must be setup to use Route XXX
-Set/Capabilites/Allow Redirect = Yes
