What is the best method for reducing the size of the transaction logs.

I though that a SQL backup would then reduce the file size but they continue to grow.

Any assistence would be appreciated.
 
Backup the Transaction Logs. That's the best way.

That will cause the logs to shrink (not immediately though). If you must shrink them immediately, run DBCC SHRINKFILE. Or BACKUP LOG dbname WITH TRUNCATE_ONLY. Warning: TRUNCATE_ONLY gets rid of the log data and you can not restore the log. You must immediately do a full backup after that command.
