Transaction log files

Hello All

I currently have several databases set up on our SQL server, with transaction logs that are set to unlimited growth. These log files are growing far too rapidly (one is 7Gb!!), and I am wondering if I can restrict the log file size in the DB permissions box to 500Mb without any detrimental effect?
Can it be done on a live database, or do I have to recreate the database from scratch, setting the log file restrictions at that time? (I think / hope it can be done on a live one)

Cheers

Check for thread183-124841 for my recent answer to a similar question.

You can set the limits on a live database but only after emptying the transaction log and shrinking the log file. I gave links that explain how to shrink the log file in the thread183-124841. There are also links about backup strategies. Terry L. Broadbent
