My company is paying for me to take some training, I have been told that ASP.NET is the way to go. But after researching it more, it seems like I might need some programming experience before jumping right in. Do I need to take a VB.Net class first or does it not matter. Just looking for some honest opinions on how everyone started out. Thanks.

To design ASP.NET sites, one needs to know one of the many .NET languages like VB, C#, and so on. So I strongly recommend you learn a language first before you jump into ASP.NET development.

Although programming experience definately helps, I don't know if you'd need to know vb.net or c# totally before jumping into asp.net. When I started doing asp.net, I had a year of vb6.0 experience under my belt, and no real web development background. In that year, I picked up on quite a bit.

It really depends on where you're coming from. If you've done classic asp development for the last little while, then taking a basic course on vb.net might be a good idea, but I've noticed some courses in my area bundle asp.net and vb.net instruction all in one course. If you're coming from a vb6.0 or Java background, then moving to vb.net or c# respectively isn't going to be that hard, and then its more of a web-technology learning curve.

Anyway, hth

I don't know asp or vb, I have decided to take the vb.net intro course prior to taking the asp.net intro course. I don't want to jump into anything over my head, thanks for the feedback.
