If 0 is bad , you'll have problems forever. You can do a lowlevel format that may rewrite what you need , or you could possibly use a utility that rewrites bad tracks, Spinrite from Gibson Research. Assuming that it has been upgraded to handle the larger drives.
You could also use an older DOS to create a small partition at the front that is unused. That would handle track 1. Ed Fair
