We've set up DSS on the buttons of certain digital phones. When it's calling an extension of ringing, it's blinking. And when it's in use, the lamp is steady.

How do we know what is the number being called? Or what is the number of the calling party?

The DSS function is just that 'Direct Station Selection' where YOU can observe the status of the extensions to see if it is busy/ringing or idle.
If you need to see what numbers are dialling it you need to do something else, maybe a keysystem setup on the HiPath or put them in a pickup group with the caller number showing.

Or you could/should use CDR (Call Detail Recording) where the incoming numbers and outgoing numbers dialled are stored.

can you give some details and steps of both options? thanks!

There is more to this than meets the eye.
You would need to contact your local supplier/maintainer to set these up.
Discuss the options with them and explain what you are looking for.
