Does anyone know how to 'touch' (set filedate on current datetime)a file that resides on an ftpserver on an easy way (= without downloading and uploading) ?

regards

Wim,

I don't know of a way to do this using FTP, sorry.

What is the server on the far end? UNIX?

Hello Wim,

As it's UNIX there'll likely be a good version of remsh that you can tell to run a command on your behalf, or depending upon your environment, you might want to consider SSH.

FTP is, as the name implies, a file transfer method. You'll need a telnet session or shell script to touch a file.

There's always a better way. The fun is trying to find it!

Just thought of this - since the purpose of "touch" is to empty a file, you could upload an empty file of the same name, effectively overwriting the existing file.

I thought the puropose of touching a file was giving it an actual timestamp, in any case that's what i wanted, but it seems that it is not as easy as i hoped.

Anyway thanks for the replys
