Management requesting a report on the maximum total trunks in use/connected at any one time during the day/month (not an average or erlang)
Also, bonus request they want an alert when connected trunk ports reaches 80%

We have ASA, CMS, Prognosis, CCA, Solarwinds, eCAS and other tools at our disposal.

Do you know the best way to get this total lines in use at one time report?

The monitor traffic trunk group command will give you a snap shot when you run the command , prognosis is the most powerful tool you have if you configure it correctly ( i say correctly as it as you probably know is really flexable and powerful ) , use it to then threshold the 80% and notify you.
