Actually, your comparison is somewhat between apples and oranges. Of all the major laptop vendors, IBM is the one fallen furthest from the TREE. That is not necessarily bad, it is just that IBM has their own way of doing things.
If your just looking for hardware/architectural differences I would suggest you get the models of each and research them from their respective Websites.
Cooleen,
I have never used an IBM, but they are extremely popular with suits, so they must be doing something right. I do however own an older Toshiba Tecra 700 CT. It is only a 120 MHz with 2 Gigs and 24 MB RAM. But it does everything I need it to do for my business. I create websites and this laptop allows me to show up to perspective customers and show them my work without actually surrendering the files to them which would allow them to copy them and never pay me for my services (past experience).
I also use it for various other things but I have been very happy with it. Customer support has been very good and their website is very easy to navigate through. All in all, I would buy Toshiba again in a heartbeat! Just an opinion, but I'll offer it anyway. Good luck on your choice. Either way, you'll probably love it.
