Topic: Which technologies are suitable for the web-baed system?

I need to do a web-based system that will feed data to database. This data will be sampled at regular intervals, or on updates,or when requested and then passed to a web-based graphical display.
Is there any suggestion on which technologies are suitable for this system?

JSP(JSP+Serverlets) or Java Applet or just ASP+MS office excel components or something else ?

I am so confused.

Use whichever you can get hosting for and / or know how to use, because you can virtually get data from anywhere and display it in any format using any language for example I used PHP to connect to a MS excel spreadsheet and display it in MM Flash Regards
