Dear all, can you please recommend a testing tool to confirm if disconnect clear is being sent by the ISP (visually or tone wise)?

I have ongoing issues with lines hanging and ISP insists they have set disconnect clear (and have most certainly lied about this in the past).

An external validation tool would help immensely.

Sysmonitor.

System status.

Wireshark.

Name it....

Butt set in monitor across the analogueline

Dial in from cell phone and then hang up

You should hear a distinctive double click on hang up as the carrier disconnects loop current for the specified time.

Our you could get a fancy ass butt set that shows the loop current drop visually (Ziad digit grabbers for example)

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

Correct on the butt set, any particular brands that you recommend (and where to buy, the ziad ones just bring up ebay links which i am dubious of)?

The fancy ass one could work too!

Sadly no.

I use a brand-less butt set

any links to buy any, brandless or otherwise, much appreciated :)

Unfortunately i will have to order from USA or UK, here they do not even know what disconnect clear is

Disconnect clear relates to Analog trunks only, so I am not sure why an ISP would be involved with this.

As a basic explanation of disconnect clear, it is a means for the local exchange to indicate a call has ended. it does this by disconnecting the line (no loop current) for a specified period of time, this time is usually set to a value that will not trigger false disconnects if the line is of poor quality & momentarily drops

probably something like an ADTRAN device

@IPGuru where i am from there are only two ISP and they are the only legally authorized people to provide voice services (PRI, BRI, SIP, analog) - they of course provide internet too.

Thanks Matt will check out ADTRAN.

So they are what we would call a telco (telephone company) what type of line do you actually have provided?

We have a analog line provided of which calls never drop... every other system in the past we have seen doing this is due to disconnect clear not being sent.

The argument is always with the service provider, they blame the system programming, and their helpdesk do not even understand what disconnect clear is.

Having a testing tool will be invaluable that we can use as evidence and get the customer off our back and believe what we are saying is correct (no disconnect clear is being sent)

Will check out the ADTRAN tools as recommended by Matt

I am lazy smart by nature and use the easiest way to test so I am using my toner parallel to the line watching the light for voltage display on it.
Then I call in and watch the light when I hang up. If it goes off entirely then disconnect clear is working if not the provider lies.

I think I may be even smarter lazier, if Disconnect clear is Enabled on the system & it does not work then I tell the line provider they are lying mistaken unless they can confirm what the disconnect clear time ha been set to (then i retest & repeat)

Even cleverer lazier here, I just make sure we don't do Analogue lines :)
