How do I get rid of numerous programs starting automatically when I first turn on my windows 98 machine?

Thanks for the help wolluf...Thats just what I needed.

Hi wolluf.
This was a query I was going to post for my Win95 machine. Msconfig doesn't work there, but Mike Lin's looks as though it would do the trick.

Thanks.

FWIW I use both Mlin's CPL and StartupMonitor

There is, of course, the startup menu. There are also locations in the Registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

You will also want to look at RunServices and RunOnce in the same folders.

This is sometimes the only way to find spyware. A good tech is never afraid of going into the Windows Registry.

thanks. one star to each.

Well, now that Sabrina brings up the point about finding spyware, you should run both of these apps frequently (at least once a month if you do a lot of surfing and downloading):

Spybot v1.2

Ad-aware v6
