Hi,

can you tell me how many tone detector cards a pbx can hold and if it has to go in a purple slot or not. Also if i insert 1 will this bring the pbx down?

I am having an issue where my agents are getting a busy signal whenever they pick up the handset. They get dead air or busy signal before even dialing a number. Help?

thanks.

you can add tone detectors hot without dropping the switch. adding tone detectors or, better yet, call classifiers should fix the problem as long as you have trunks available for people to sieze.

Statements expressed in this post are my own opinions and should not be considered as the opinion of my employer.

The tone detector does go into a "purple" slot. You have another option for the card you use. One is the TN748D tone detector, another is the TN744 and it also goes into a universal slot.

If you have a TN714, TN741, or TN768 Tone/Clock the only choice is to add TN748 Tone Detectors. If you have a TN2182 Tone/Clock you should add TN744D Call Classifiers. If you have a Multi-Carrier Cabinet (refrigerator) you can put the Tone Detectors or Call Classifiers in the Service Slot (Slot 00). This is the slot to the left of slot 01. It may be labled 'service' or 'power'. If you have a stackable system (SCC) you have to place the packs in a purple slot.

Thanks for the valuable posts gentlemen. Question is for 4meravaya i have a tn2182b card and a 3 carrier pbx. Does this mean that i need to add a tn744d call classifier? is this normal in terms of adding call classifer cards to the pbx? and does anyone know what the ratio to card/port is for this dial tone issue that we are having? Thanks.

The number of boards is defined by the maximum number of simutaneous dial tone requests. If you have an IVR farm that does a lot of dialing you requirements would be complete different from a traditional office environment. You can check the peak required resources by doing 'list measurements tone-receiver summary [yesterday, today, last-hour]'.
