TNS Protocol Adapter Error

Hi there,

Attempting to connect to the server through SQL*Plus and I get the error message "TNS Protocol Adapter Error"

- ODBC is working fine, tests are fine
- TNSPING is ok
- I can view the linked tables in Access fine

Any help greatly appreciated!

Does your ODBC use the same Oracle client as sql*plus? I suppose that you have multiple Oracle homes, and notv all of them are configured well.

Hi Dima,
Thanks for you post. I sorted it out myself by adding the name of the instance into the host string.

If this is blank, what instance does SQL*Plus attempt to connect to?

It uses ORACLE_SID to connect via IPC or LOCAL to connect via network.
