I'm getting the following error messages when I status the Trunk Groups associated with an ISDN/PRI, and test the board.

What could be the problem?

Check the Signaling Group (st sig x). Try 'busy board 01C04', 'reset board 01C04', then 'release board 01C04'. Then status the Trunk Group again.

I've busied and released the board, but never re-set it. I'll give it a try tomorrow as well as statusing the Sig Grp. Someone else to me the OOS NE indicated it might be a wiring issue.

Code:
01C0401 ISDN-TRK 03/01 255 FAIL 4

This test means that your provider is not sending you the primary D channel. I just had this same problem and my carrier had T 3 problems. As soon as they resolve their end you may have to busy and release the board to get everything back up on your end.

When is the last time you helped someone, just because you were able to?

For the best response to a question, read faq690-6594

This is a new circuit being provided by another carrier, and which we were unable to turn-up. I thought the trouble was at our end because of the OOS NE error message. Per 4merAvaya's request, I statused the Sig Grp and did a Reset on the Board. Here's my results:

STATUS SIGNALING GROUP
Group ID: 3
Type: facility associated signaling
Group State: out-of-service
Primary D-Channel
Link: Port: 01C0424 Level 3 State: manual-out-of-service
Secondary D-Channel
Link: Port: Level 3 State: no-link

Port Maintenance Name Alt. Name Test No. Result Error Code
01C04 UDS1-BD 135 ABORT 1015

I'm going to setup another test with the carrier and have them check out their D channel per Mikeydidit's response.

If you have no D-channel the protocol on the board in not matching the Carriers.....The board only has 4 options....ABCD......it appears the carrier has something messed up.....do a disp errors 1C04....it will tell you exactly who's porblem it is.....

Where does one find out what the errors codes translate to.

Here's the "disp err board 01c04" Error Message:

Port Mtce Name Alt name Error Aux Data First Occ.

01C0416 ISDN-TRK 03/16 18 0 12/28-08:42

error code 18 means the d channel is busied out..

Do a release port 1c0416, then staus the sig group again, and disp errors again

Thanks billybobdan and wilsontec. Billybobdan what's with port 16...I thought port 24 carried the D channel.

Wilsontec....I've never done a "check packet control card word or not"....how do I do it?

Lastly....is there any special cable of cabling required to connect the ICSU to the Smart Jack? Currently they're using a LAN Patch Cord.

Sorry I am used to using 31 channel PRI which uses channel 16 as D channel. You will be using channel 24.

However status sig group 3 is showing manual out of service which means you have bussied it out.

Try these

Release board 1c04
release sig 3

Then do status signal 3 again

Failing that has the carrier put the trunk in to service. Is it busied out from their end. The physical connection seems okay. I use a cat 5 patch lead without any issues, but sometimes if the cat5 outlet is wired to 568-b (or is it A) the transmit pair will not be connected. Try swapping the orange and green pairs at the rj45. This has caused several of our guys some considerable pain in the past.

To test this put a loop back RJ45 onto the line and run test board 1c04. if the first 3 tests (148 to 140 pass then it is correct. A loop back plug is made by connecting pairs 1&2 to 4&5 on an rj45 connector.

Thanks for your input....Why port 16 on this test and not port 24. I'll do the tests and advise, and I'm trying to get a loop-back plug made.

etc. etc.

The loop-back jack is in and the cable to the smartjack is out. I've was able to release the board, but not the sig grp (not a valid command).

Anymore thoughts?

If you fail test 138 you don't have carrier on the circuit. remove the loop-back jack and connect the circuit to the smart-jack. Then re-test.

Try doing 'release board 10C04'. 10C0424 should be the D channel.

Kevin

Thanks Kevin....I'll do it tomorrow. Where can I find what the error codes translate to?

Depending where you had the loop back jack when the test board failed with test 138.

Try makeing this test BRI loopback plug jack up

on an RJ45 connect pin 3 to 4 and 6 to 5.
NOTE: this is not the correct wiring for a pri but it will help to prove the below. Now run the test board 1c04. If 138 to 140 pass then read the below, if they still fail then you will need to check the wiring right back to the tn464.

ONLY DO THIS IF the above passed with the BRI loopback.
My best guess would be that the outlet is wired 568-a spec change this to 568-b spec by swapping the green and orange pairs. Then re run the test board with the correct loop back test plug (1&2 to 4&5)
