I have a couple computers (Windows Millennium) that this month have started adding a folder in C:\Windows\Temp that begins with "TMP_" and the next 32 characters in the folder name are random and unique Hexadecimal numbers. The folders are empty, but I'm wondering if some adware or spyware somehow snuck on.

It seems a new folder gets added upon every new hard boot, but not with Restart.

On one I've run SpyBot S&D, Ad-Aware and HijackThis. Other than removing a few corrupted links about CoolWebSearch, one Alexis-related and a few hi-wire registry items, nothing else seems to be bad there, although for good measure I also removed "TkBellExe" which is some sort of Real Player program.

What's creating this folder?

It was real hard to download, but I finally got the latest CWShredder and it said I was clean!

I checked other computers and WinMe computers all exhibited this symptom of multiplying directories, but not XP. And if the computer is not logged into the network at bootup, then no new folder is created. So something is happening at logon. Apparently new IM software (version 1.0.4) from Ipswitch creates this temp folder on every hard boot and they are accumulating. Maybe they didn't do thorough testing on Windows Millennium computers.

Also, I ran PestScan from PestControl and the hi-wire whatever seemed to be connected with Music MatchBox. Deleted.
