Quick one here. Adding a second TL891 tape library. It's got it's own scsi card, does it also require a scsi expander/convetor? If so why? Yes I know, I'm thick.

No idea, what is your definition of a SCSI expander/convetor?

Black box with "Model number: DS-DWZZC-DA; Part number: 70-33263-02" on it.

Is this a joke? I have no idea what a black box with a model number is.

OK, lets try it a different way.

How is the server connencted to the existing library?
Is it direct connect SCSI?
What has it's own SCSI card? the library???
Is this a SAN?

Thanks for your help here. Yep, direct connect. It has its own card, but this thing is between them. Tried connecting the second tl891 straight to the second card and it doesn;t work. Only seems to work when intersected by this black box thingy (dead technical I am).

The other idea we had was just to join the two tl891s together, again, unsure of leads etc etc.

It's becasue you get hi and low voltage 891s. High voltage require either a powered card or one of these adapters.

OH!!

Ok it makes sence now. So it is a high voltage differential SCSI device. I never heard of this box and a quick search on the HP site did not help. As far as I had ever heard a HVD SCSI device must be connected to a HVD cotroller. But if this box is supposed to take care of it then fine. But as far as the library needing a box of it's own or if it can share, I have no idea. Best to check with either who ever it is that sold you the setup or support for that box.
