The Dreamweaver User's Guide states this, page 379 "Documents created from a template inherit the template's page properties, except for the page title. If a document is based on a template, you can change that document's title, but any changes you make to its other page properties are ignored." I have found the title on such a page to be uneditable, and I noticed several other people in the past few days to have posted about the same problem.

It's been suggested to detach the page from the template, but that would defeat the purpose of having pages whose basic format can be readily altered -- half the reason for having templates in the first place. Has anybody figured out a way to work around this apparent glitch in the program? I hope DW addresses this, since many former Front Page users are accustomed to the advantages of what MS calls "shared borders," and won't be satisfied with this.

Aha, I think I've found a work-around. Go into your template document in code view and delete the code for <head> </head> completely and add some extra lines. Then go into your documents based on the template, and in code view, manually add the <head></head> and also manually, add your <title></title> code. Then save while still in code view. It seems you can then use the menu &quot;Insert, Head tags&quot; for the rest of the stuff you want in the head tag. All this seems to stick without the template overruling it. Hopefully the rest of the template features will work as normal. I'll let you know if I find problems, and please let me know if you find any. Still just experimenting!

I'm really sorry but you're wrong.......

I'd like to know what you did when you made the template.

I've been using Dreamweaver since november 2000 and never experienced your problems????

By the way i'm pro Microsoft but i can't stand FrontPage it's for &quot;amateur&quot; (sorry if you're one of them) ;-)

Have Fun...

If you'll look there have been several other posts in the last week or so with people having the same problem. I've tried re-doing my template twice in hopes there may have simply been some corruption. I'll try again.

The work around I wrote about earlier works -- until you revise your template and save, it will wipe out all your head tags. So, hopefully DW will start working for me the way it should.

Questions,

do you have an original copy of dreamweaver?

What version is it?

I got original version 4, since november 2001 and never experienced any of your problems.

If it's not too much asking, could you describe the exact steps of your template creation?

Have Fun...
