I've got a couple private stores on a Win2k server, dual P-3 550MHz, 1 GB RAM. One is about 10GB, the other is about 3GB. Can anyone give me any reasonable estimates for how long a defrag would take on either one? The stores were both set up a year ago and haven't had a defrag run on them yet.

Hi this can take from several hours to several days depending upon the following factors

How fast the system is (particulart the system drives) and how much load is on them at the time of defragmentation
How fragmented the disks are

On your system, a guess would be a few hours however it would be impossible to say until it has actually finished the fragmentation..

Best advice will be to perform the drfrag starting on friday night when the system will probably be idling i.e in most cases people have gone home for the weekend. Also before you perform this operation it will be extreemly wise to perform a complete backup for the just incase scenario. When the defrag has started, check on it the following morning and every few hours or when is convienient to give you an idea of just how long it does take.

Regards

Dave
