Hi. Does anyone know if it is possible to set up a time server on either a CMS server, Audix Intuity or Lucent Definity system so that we could synch all our PCs with the phone system? At the moment, after a while, they lose synch and agents are logging in late.

Thanks in advance!

I am sure that you have a cental time source in your company that your PC's and servers sync off of. If so good. Now set up a PC running ASA that will run 24/7. There is an option in ASA under Fault and Performance called "Time Synchronization". This can be configured to run once a month at 3:00 am or so. This way your Definity will have the correct time.

As far as Audix goes, NO, you will need to set the time manually on this. When you set the time, the Audix will need to be rebooted to complete the request. You should be rebooting your Intuity Audix every 90 days, so that is a perfect time to set the time.

Not sure about CMS, mine keeps good time and I haven't the need to set it yet.

On the web interface for my S8700 (CM 1.3), there is a setting for Configure Time Server under the Configure Server option.

Thanks guys - it's not that I want the definity server to keep good time .. here's the situation:

we're a call centre with about 150 PCs. I would like to synchronise all these PCs (that's not a problem, I'll use login scripts), but I want to synchronise them with CMS so the CMS reports are bang on with when the agents log off/on etc...

Thanks again!

There may be a way in Solaris to set a time sync in the KRON, but Avaya isn't going to give access to that level of the operating system. I'm pretty sure resetting time on a CMS also requires a reboot. You do need to turn off the CMS application at least because changing the time could affect the database.

Statements expressed in this post are my own opinions and should not be considered as the opinion of my employer.

With the CMS, you should be doing a backup and reboot monthly. To me, that seems like the perfect time to set the time.

In our company, the phone system, PC's, thin clients, and servers all point to the same time server. That way, all the systems are set to the same time. The only way something "drifts" is if they don't reboot their system for 3-4 weeks. (We even have fancy clocks in the hallways, breakrooms, etc., that automatically update to the correct time.)

If you have root level access on the CMS server, make sure the xntp daemon is running, set up the xntp.conf file (or ntp.conf) to point to the time server you want, have the switch point at the same server - that should work.
