The time on the novell5 server is clicking 20 min slow everyday. But the system time on boot is correctly set and runnong correctly. Can anyone help me on this

There are a number of reasons this can be.
1. There is a patch for time running slow on a Pentium III server.
2. What service pack are you on.
3. Check drivers for multi processor.
Is it a single reference or reference server?

First Thx for replying my query.

Pt 2 It has SP6A.
Pt 3 There is no mutli processor. It has a single Zeon 700
MHz Processor
Pt 4 this is a local file server which is getting connected
with the network which is globally connected. We have
offices thru on all major coutries.

Moreover when i checked the system Boot settings the time is running correctly and also at dos prompt it gives the correct time. This happens only when i load novell server. and only on novell server.

Thx & regards

Vijay

is the server set as a secondary, primary, reference time server? Dependent on which of these it could be getting time from another server on the network and it maybe a time zone issue. Lee Smith

Have you thought about having an external time source such as a serial clock? -----------------------------------------------------

Time slows down on our server too, It is caused by Arcserve which gobbles up the CPU time, we are waiting for a patch to be released, and the time lost is comparable to yours.

What version of Arcserve are you running? I've never heard of that before? -----------------------------------------------------

In your TIMESYNC.CFG file, have you got the "Hardware Clock" option set to ON or OFF ? -----------------------------------------------------

Hi
After working with Novell for Years on many sites - Time has always been an issue with all versions of Netware.
External time source is the only way to go - we have a clock on site which gets its time from multiple satelites (its never wrong) then we point the netware/NT server's to it (over 100 Servers). On the novell site is a TID on setting up to a external clock to a university such as MIT - This will work unless it is mission critcal, cause if your internet link goes down your time will drift again.
