I wanna start this thread out by saying I'm not fluenent in Access at all. I've learned alittle the last day or so by looking around trying to figure our problem out.

We open a query.mdb on a workstation that links back to our original db, db1.mdb. On our query db, it has a form where the user can 'search and edit database". Well we can open the form and search just fine but once have our record pulled up and try to edit it, the error "This Recordset is not updateable" flashes in the Status bar. This process has worked for years, not sure what broke????

I found an article about deleteing my tables and refinding them with "get external date" - "linked table". So I did that, nothing changed.

Can anybody help me? Got any suggestions?

Thanks a ton for any help.

Maybe you could try going into the Form's properties and checking to see if the AllowEdits is set to Yes.

As far as I can tell, they are. For each entry in the detail view of the Forms page, is there an 'allow edit' property?

I've have this experience before but it only occurs if the relationships have been altered or the row source changed from a table to a query of multiple tables.

Have all your linked tables a Primary Key or at least a unique field ?

Hope This Help, PH.

PHV,

You are absolutely right. I figured that is what it was but had no clue as to how to set that. We had somebody come in and fix it for us.

Thanks to all for your help. Love Tek-tips!!!

We encountered a recordset not updateable problem on a form that has been working normally since day one over a year ago all of a sudden started having a recordset not updatable message when entering data into a combobox. Turned out that a user had click on the Sort A Z button and by putting a sort on the name field, this caused the combobox (A self lookup of another field in the same table with a DISTINCT) to become not updatable. Once we removed the statement that appeared in the Order by box of the Form's property window, the combobox once again became updateable.
