This must be a hardware error...

Hello all.
I have a new-ish Dell which when is on user a's desk it plays up all the time crashing and getting BSOD. The latest BSOD saying Driver IRQL not less or equal - uhcd.sys, but the errors are different every time.
So I swap user a's computer with my own (completely different) leaving all the cables and the monitor behind.
She has no problems whatsoever with my computer and I have absolutely no problems with hers.
I sawp them back again and in the last couple of days she's crashed 2 or 3 times and just the the BSOD.
Anyone experienced anything similar?

Must be some software she's using that you don't that has a flaky install.
 
You didnt mention who is using what software or if that even matters. In other words, does the computer freeze up or give bsod's just sitting there or do you have to be in a certain program? This makes a lot of difference when trying to troubleshoot the problem. If the computer in question freezes up just any time, at any point, doesnt matter what software is being used then its a hardware problem. In that case you need to find out what piece of hardware is causing the problem by swapping them out until you find the cause.
I wouldnt go thru all the trouble of uninstalling and re-installing every piece of software in my pc on a whim, unless i only had a few, which would be rare. I point this out simply because you are not sure of the exact problem at this point.

When you switch computers, is any computer attached to a UPS? Are both computers on the same wall socket? If different wall sockets are they both on the same circuit or different circuits? Is there a bad wall socket?
If its not bad power then you might have a bad keyboard, mouse, or other peripheral. Thats another point, you havent mentioned what peripherals are on the one computer and on the other.

Check the power supply voltage select switch, too.

As I understand it the poster swapped her computer with the "broken" computer and used it with no issues. Once systems were switched back to their original users the one "broken" system was once again broken. It seems more like a software issue and less of a hardware issue by the sounds of it.
 
There ae too many unknowns (OS, motherboard, video card, software used) with your problem to be able to give a definite fix

User A has problems when using her machine but not User Bs machine ... user B doesn't have a problem with either machine.
I'd say it's a hardware-software combination that's causing the problem.

Also, the BSOD mentions uhcd.sys which is USB Host Controller Driver. Try reinstalling or updating that file.

Yes, there are just too many variables here and not enough solid info. But if you give it to us again, fill in as many blanks as possible, that would be a big help.

We especially need to know when the bsod happens, like what peripherals are installed, what software is being used, info like like.
You have mentioned the bsod and the uhcd.sys file being mentioned, which could be a help, we just need a bit more info.
It does seems like more of a software thing, but it could be a power issue, and it could also be a peripheral (with the mention of the bsod and the file called uhcd.sys. Thats why we need more info.
