This is a request for a solution some of which I think I know some of which I haven't got a clue.

The company I worked for decided, despite all my screaming, to install NT4 thin client server via citrix.

For several years I have been playing with a smart management decision support software system. This is based in Access XP, although will have to move to SQL 2000.

The current situation with the server is that it appears to me they have not bought the correct hardware. The system is slow and contankerous to the point where I cannot use it. Therefore although from time to time I must use it, for email and the like, I generally find it more efficent to run my desktop as a client server configuration.

However, my antiquated hardware is fast becoming a limiting factor. Therefore I have budgeted some money out for a new system, and although it is a fight to spend the money, I know I will succeed.

My questions are related to software and support for various systems. I thought if I have to spend a few thousand I may as well spend another thousand or so and deal with all my problems, if possible. The following is my aim:

My first question is Dell, H.P and so on are running Windows XP, can windows XP support the Citrix software supported by NT4? (And therefore which version Home or Pro?)

Currently Access sends emails to clients. Currently I have to close out Outlook within Citrix, wait an eternity, open Outlook on my desktop, send the mail. Close Outlook wait an eternity, open in Citrix and it goes. What is the solution for this?

Please note our network administrator avoids me like the plague. I do not know why, specifically, except I keep asking hard questions like is it possible to run a scanner from the Citrix system. How is it possible that all the templates dissappear from the template file and why are you telling me that we are not supposed to use templates???

My second question is that as I am on the phone sometimes all day non stop and trying to type at the same time, is it possible to bring a commander phone system onto the desktop and use a headset instead? We currently have seven available lines?

As it is the intent to replicate the software and synchronise, with remote stations, Once a day or so, is it possible to do this in the desktop rather than the server.

One solution to most of this is to load XP or SQL on the server, however, as previously mentioned it is way too slow and I am worried that the overhead of my system will kill it. In addition the accounting system is running on Fox Pro and uses SQL statements stored in a version of Access, but no one knows which version, so I could inadvertantly kill that too.
