Recently I discovered that my Networker Windows Client doesn't display the information about the volumes and pools and the Operations window displays <Not in media index> in place of the pool the tape belongs. Also when clicking the indexes tab and trying to see the savesets for a client i get "Server xxx: No savesets found for client yyy".

But, mminfo and mmpool shows information about the volumes and pools. Also the nwadmin displays all the volumes, pools and savesets.

What can be the explanation of that?
Thanks a lot

I think you are mixing up thinks here.

- The NW/Windows Client is the backup & recover GUI, winworkr.exe .
As long as you are not more precise, it does not show info
about volumes and pools at all.
- nwadmin.exe but not winworkr.exe does has the indexes tab.

This may simply be a GUI problem which is not in sync with the command lines. This happens from time to time and may have been solved by a later version or patch.

With respect to database management, a lot of customers (including me) rely more on the command line features - they are much more flexible but it is not a point-and-click functionality.

I had a similar problem last week, but it was with the network admin gui on windows. Doing an mminfo or using the X gui on the unix server worked fine. It turned out that one of the Networker services on the W2K box running the admin gui was off, causing access to the media database to fail, but oddly not the client database. The inpact of pretty much identical to your description, ie

- could not see volumes in volume tab
- all tapes were flagged as not being in media index.

Thanks cadencep45!

I also found out that it's because the service went off. To my mind the service went off due to firewall i have installed, though it's not a sure thing.

Thanks again.
