I am using Symantec Backup 11d on SBS 2003. Got the "driver detected a controller error" message and the tape (HP Ultrium 448) is stuck in the drive. Tried to manually eject the tape but failed. Any help would be appreciated.

That means the SCSI controller or hardware had a problem.
Stop the Backup Exec services and RSM service and try to eject the tape manually. If that doesnt work then reboot..try to eject the tape otherwise call HP

HP will want you to update the firmware on your tape drive with Library and Tape Tools (L&TT), update the drivers on your storage controller card, try a different active terminator, etc. They might want you to try the HP drivers for the TBU drive instead of the Veritas drivers (or vice versa). So be prepared to run the tapeinst.exe program from Veritas. You should also swap out the cable for a known good one. Try all those things and your support call with be much faster and you'll get a drive much quicker. If you have an HP server, it makes it much easier because the entire system is under warranty (if it is an internal drive), or at least the entire system is HP branded (which makes it all their responsibility). When this is the case, it is easy to get replacement cables, terminators, drives, cards etc.

Thanks for the replies. Running the HP diagnostic tools fixed the problem but still don't know what caused it.
