Hi,

I have lots of Windows 98 setup CD's that have managed to get all muddled up, as one of the setup discs (possibly two) is First Edition.

However, I wish to install Win98SE on another machine, but cannot tell which of the discs are first edition and which are second. Could anyone tell me what I need to look for to ensure I'm installing with a second edition disc?

Thanks in advance. Ahdkaw

The Win98SE CD will say plainly on it Second Edition. There's also an Windows 98 Second Edition Upgrade version and a Windows 98 Second Edition Updates version and also plainly marked with Second Edition. Note the difference between Upgrade and Updates, the Updates requires Win98 installed and brings Win98 up to the same as the full version of Win98SE. Includes Internet Connection Sharing and IE5 among other things. Also Win98SE and later is usually required for USB 2.0 support.

setup dated 5-11-98 early first edition
11-24-98 late first edition
4-23-99 second edition

Haven't bothered documenting the boot disks as any work with any using fat16. Ed Fair

edfair, thanks for the reminder about the late edition of Win98, I keep forgetting about Service Pack 1.

I am recieving a "cannot load msnp.32dll" message and it seems to be affecting my cd rom performance. How do I correct?
