There are holes with arrows in the case. Use a screwdriver to push on the tabs according to the arrows. This will release the case. Then you can clean the inside springs and the door slidey thing.

Use a weak acid like white vinegar to counteract the alkaline crud. Apply with a Q-Tip or other small applicator until it stops bubbling. Be careful not to get too much on the electronics or circuit board.
Use a soft brush, like an old tooth brush, to physically remove the residue.
