I use SQL Server as my backend...

Should I be creating views when creating a report or should I directly use the tables?

Thanks,
Jon

Hi
that depends of how many tables u have in your report
and what data is going to be display.
If you used tables you have to make the links.
In a view you create the links and generated the data from these links.
If you have to change the links you have to go to sql analyser and change the links in there
If you have the tables in your report, it a lot easer to change there

NEVER USE CRYSTAL QUERY DESIGNER PLEASE

use SQL views instead

cheers

Makes sense...i think the majority of my work involves a lot of tables. I am comfortable with the views in SQL Server. I'd much like to write my own SQL in SQL Server and snatch all fields. I could however use direct tables for simple reports that do not involve many joins, thats what I think I will do.

Thanks for the help.
