Does anyone know if there is a way of having the folders to show a preview of the selected file like Win2k does?
I really miss that feature. If it's an image file one can see a thumbnail of that image to the left in a column along with other pertinent info. And if it's a sound file, one can click "Play" in some of the provided buttons below the file itself.
As for images, the closest I have found to this feature is changing the View to "Thumbnails", but then one has to do just that. I always keep the view as details, that's why that Win2k feature was more practical, as it would only show me a preview of the file I have selected (without having to do any View changes).
Changing to Thumbnails is of no help when dealing with sound files of course.
Anyway, I hope you can see where I come from and what I want.

Thanks in advance,

Whenever someone notes a deficiency of Explorer, I have to find Explorer first to check it out, 'cause I've been using PowerDesk (V-Com.com) for so long. It will even play mpg files in the "viewer pane."

But you can get Explorer to show that preview of graphic files by selecting View>Explorer Bar>uncheck what's checked.

Sloth is the mother of invention. Necessity is just a mother...

Open Explorer, Tools, Folder Options, and click to 'Show common tasks in folders.'

The common task pane on the left will show at its bottom a preview of any picture type of file in details view.

Thank you guys :)
But unfortunately that doesn't cut my mustard ;)

ttterk, this one is good as long as I'm dealing with graphics files, but it's not if I'm dealing with sound files, as it only allows me to "play them all" at once. The idea is to preview only ONE file. Also, it relys on your designated sounds player, as oppose to handle it Explorer himself (as it used to in Win2k)For instance, I had Winamp playing a bunch of files I previously loaded, but when I click Play All in Exp, it sends the task to Winamp replacing my file list :(

bcastner, yours pretty much falls into the same category :(

I failed to mention that normally I have the Folders button pressed. I know that if I want to see the tasks pane all I need to do is depress the Folders button.

I guess I should check that PowerDesk, ttterk ;)

I appreciate your time and effort anyways guys :)
