I copied a config file from my tftp server. I then do a wri mem.
When I do a show run the old config is there. When I do show config the new (copied) config is there. Once I do a wri mem shouldnt that be the config that is used when the router is resatrted? When the router is reloaded I also get "Would you like to enter the initial configuration Dailog? [yes/no]:_

What am I doing wrong?

Writing to mem changes your startup config. If valid, that will be what's loaded the next go around. As for your message, have you checked that your config register is correct? If so, I'd take a close look at the config your trying to load in an make sure it's valid.

The config is valid. It works on my other Cisco 1600.

My config register is 0x2142.

I manage to get the new config to be the start-config. However when i reload the router running-config contains the old config. Even though start-config contains the new config.

That link wa helpful. It did show that the register setting was ignoring NVRAM. Thanks

It works in reverse too. You can click on the options you want and it will spit out the config reg value that you need. Probably 2102.

Regards.

Thanks again.
I just changed the reg settings and it seems to be working fine.
