I have a user with Windows XP Pro, SP1 installed. When they select text in WordPerfect or IE, entire words are selected if more than one word is involved. Some programs, such as OpenOffice and Notepad, don't exhibit this behaviour. I've verified this on my own computer also.

I've found information on changing settings in Word or Outlook, but there's no MS Office or Outlook on these computers (OE is there, of course). I use OpenOffice and they use Corel.

Another person has confirmed to me that this is a "Windows XP-ism". Is there a way to turn this behavious off?

Thanks.
Lee.

Try sweeping the mouse pointer forward to and over the next "space" (with the mouse button held down) then backward to see if the extra text disappears.

If you don't understand my poor description, apologies.

Aha! You are correct. Wherever the cursor stops, backing up causes it to revert to per-character mode. Moving it forward puts it back in per-word mode.

Better, but still weird. I'd like to eliminate this altogether if possible. The people asking about it are lawyers, who live and breathe by their word processors.

Thanks for the tip.
Lee.
