Text in titles appears blurry or distorted in Monitor window

Please can someone advise me how to get nice crisp looking text in my titles?

Whatever I have tried, results in blurry or distorted text. Some pixels near the edge of the letters are blank. Also, there is distortion of the surrounding background, resulting in a smudged effect in some places.

I am using Adobe Premiere 5.1 LE
- Frame size = 720X576
- 4:3 aspect
- pixel depth 32 bits

This distortion is seen in the Monitor window, Program section. It is also seen in exported AVI and FAST (.dif) files.
