I just built a new computer. It's a AMD T-bird 1.13ghz 266fsb. With 512 mg memory. ATI Radeon LE 32mg DDR video. I figured this machine would be a screamer. Or maybe I though it woould do so much, that it's actually working fine, just I expected more. Is there anyway to test to see that's it's runnign optimal and fast. Plus, is there any optimizing I can do to make it run like it's supposed to be. Oh, btw, my mobo is an Epox 8KTA3. I'm runign Windows 2000 Professional w/service pack 1.

Try a couple of benchmarks.
Sisoft Sandra and Dr. Hardware are both good programs for really checking the stuff out, and Sandra will give you tips on what to change to improve performance. Cheers,

as jim said these programs are good for benchmarking you system. you can then compair it to other specced machines held in these programs data files.
i have a similar system to yours but only a 1 gig t-bird.
sandra has some problems accessing the amd cpu and it will crash the system whislt testing it. there is however a good helpfile in sandra that documents the proceedures for getting round this.
these programs are available as shareware downloads
by the way your choice of the epox mobo is an excellent one, it is getting some really good revues and prase from the motherboard web sites that do indepentant testing.
you system should be fast mine certainly is, but make sure you have good cooling both on the cpu and in the case. a good source for this specialist advise is available on the forums at

Thanks for the help gentlemen. Very helpful. I'll give these a programs a try and see what I get. I'm sure everything will be fine, but I just want to make sure I'm getting everything out of it I can without overclocking. Hell, it pretty much broke me builiding it. LOL.

Want to see what that machine is really doing? Run the latest in 3d games on it for benchmarks and compare what you're seeing with the guys at tomshardware.com or sharkyextreme.com - it'll load that machine harder than those benchmark testers can, and more fairly as well. It's certainly not unheard of for companies to optimize their video drivers to work exceptionally well on certain high-profile benchmark tests.
