I posted in the modem forum, but no response there. Maybe because there is not dedicated forum for U.S.Robotics.
Just recently, I am having trouble keeping my dialup connection. In fact, it doesn't sound the same when I initially connect... the handshake that is.

Is there a way to test this modem with XP Pro? It's a USR5699B modem. I don't mind going out and getting a new modem but would like to know how to determine if this one is bad first. I did download the latest driver from their site. In fact, it told me I already had downloaded it but I overwrote it and reinstalled anyway. Also, USR has a diagnostic tool that I downloaded and it didn't even recognize a modem being on my machine.

Any help, thanks. Also, anybody running one of these USR's. Could it be a connection string? Just seems funny it has been working just fine for a long time.

Thanks.

Hello,

These instructions are from my 2K system, but it should be very similar:

1. Go to start -> control panel -> phone and modem options -> modems tab.
2. Highlight your modem
3. Click "Properties"
4. Go to the Diagnostics tab
5. Click "Query Modem" to check that the modem is working.
Note that you must not be logged on when doing this.,

You can also click the "View Log" tab to see what your OS has used the modem for.
